What Adults Can Do:
UNDERSTAND AND USE YOUR INFLUENCE
Studies clearly show that parents remain a key influence on their children.
1. Stay involved and stay in touch - inquire about classes, friends, and social activities.
2. Encourage community involvement and other healthy activities for youth to spend time with family and friends.
3. Talk with your child - get and share facts.
4. Communicate risks and consequences of drug use and poor choices.
5. Make your expectations extremely clear - provide clear "no-use" messages regarding youth alcohol, vaping and drug use.
If youth perceive parents disapproval of behaviors, they are less likely or engage in them.
