OUR MISSION

Our Mission is advocating for community wellness for all of Tangipahoa Parish citizens by addressing substance use as a serious safety concern, public health issue and social problem

THE HISTORY OF THE TRACC COALITION

Tangipahoa Parish Government’s TRACC Coalition was formalized to address substance use issues facing our parish. The purpose of this coalition is to decrease harmful risks for our citizens and improve the quality of life in our community. Tangipahoa-Reshaping Attitudes for Community Change (TRACC) Coalition was formed in 2008 when the parish received funding from the Federal Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant (SPF-SIG). The Coalition uses the Strategic Prevention Framework Process to access and address alcohol and drug use disorders. Then, TRACC uses these data-driven, evidence-based strategies to make positive community changes. Today the TRACC Coalition is under Tangipahoa Parish Government's Office of Community Development.

THE SOLUTION

TRACC plays a crucial role in addressing and preventing the growing issue of substance use disorders, by engaging local organizations, schools, and healthcare providers. TRACC aims to promote available resources for support and recovery in Tangipahoa Parish, tailored to the unique needs of the community.  Such initiatives often include workshops and outreach efforts to reduce stigma as well as encourage open dialogue. The goal of the coalition is not only to inform, but to foster a supportive environment where individuals feel comfortable seeking help. Ultimately, we strive to create a more informed and resilient Tangipahoa Parish.

Community Outreach

TRACC believes community outreach in substance use education is essential for breaking down barriers to understanding and support. By proactively reaching out to local neighborhoods, schools, and organizations, these efforts provide valuable information about the dangers of substance use, early warning signs, and the steps individuals can take to seek help in Tangipahoa Parish. Effective outreach not only raises awareness but also fosters a sense of solidarity and shared responsibility, encouraging individuals to support one another and build a network of care. Additionally, community outreach helps to challenge the stigma surrounding addiction, making it easier for people to come forward and ask for assistance. When communities are educated and engaged, they become better equipped to prevent substance use and create a healthier, more compassionate environment for all.
