The TRACC Coalition hosted a Youth Leadership Rally at Southeastern Louisiana University. High School SADD Clubs through out Tangipahoa Parish attended the rally. The students were divided into groups for break out sessions. PEEPS, Peer Educators Educating Peers @ Southeastern were the group leaders. Our guest speakers included, Trooper McClelland of Troop L, Mrs. Cindy Savoy with MADD, JADD (Jackets against Destructive Decisions) students, PEEPS, Mrs. Bridget Bailey (TRACC Project Director), Sgt. Dane Thomas with Wildlife and Fisheries, and Mr. Drew Lehmann with Amplify Resources. Trooper McClelland spoke to the students about drinking and driving. Students volunteered to wear fatal vision goggles and go through a field sobriety test. The PEEPS had volunteers wear the fatal vision goggles and ride a scooter in and out of cones. Mrs. Cindy Savoy and the JADD students educated the students on good refusal skills. Mrs. Bridget Bailey and Sgt. Dane Thomas spoke to the students about leadership skills. Mr. Drew Lehmann spoke to the students about growing up with an alcoholic father and how he over came the obstacles that where presented to him. The students were given valuable information on drinking and driving, refusal and leadership skills.
