Total drunk driving deaths
in the U.S. this year (so far): |
On May 6, 2010 students at Sumner High School simulated a mock crash. Paula and Tom Zachary were guest speakers at this event. The Zachary's are concerned citizens and part of the TRACC Coalition. They spoke to the students about their personal experience with losing a son to drinking and driving. After the Zachary's spoke, the Sumner High School students acted out a party with drinking. A student then decided to drive and was involved in a crash with another vehicle. Paramedics, law enforcement and fire fighters responded to the crash. Even though this was simply a "mock" crash everyone responded as though it was a "real" crash. After the scene was cleaned up and everyone removed from the wreckage a mock funeral was held. Students dressed in black attended the funeral. The mock crash was very emotional to watch. The message to the students watching from the stadium was how drinking and driving damages lives and impacts others.
